She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Whitaker, Sr. and Milbur Whitaker (Thorpe). She is survived by: her siblings, Vicki Fanning, Kathleen Whitaker-Farmer of Medford, Jacquelyn Whitaker of Melrose, Edward Whitaker, Jr. (Rhonda) of Medford, Pamela Whitaker-Gray (Alfred) of North Reading, Derrick Alleyne (Lisa) of New Jersey and Cecil Galloway of Stoneham; and also Gilbert L. Godfrey.

“Marlene is remembered by me as a teacher in a short-lived but nonetheless influential educational program named Sidetrack located in both Lincoln and Roxbury in 1971. She played a strong role in guiding 7th and 8th grade kids from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds to integrate and interact. I was a member of her class. The program and her part in it is still discussed by the participants to this day. She left her mark on the world and is missed.”
