He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis C. McHugh and Alice C. McHugh (McNamara); his sons, Robert L. Jr., Dennis U. and Keith P.; and his grandchildren, Jessica P. McHugh and Bryan R. Madden.

He is survived by: his children, Lauri P. McHugh (Gaetz), Darren P. McHugh, Wendy M. Bandzul (John) of John, F. K and Liberty E. Pilsch (Michael). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
