He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman F. Bissell and Agnes C. Bissell. He is survived by: his wife Janice Emery Bissell; his children, Gary Bissell of Lexington, Mark Bissell of Fogelsville, Drew Bissell of Bristow, Brooke Hartwell of Virginia Beach, Kerri Brock of Bristow, Collin Bissell of Lexington, Virginia Bissell and Brandon Bissell of Clarksville, Tennessee; and his sister Fay Hession of Marshfield, Massachusetts. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
