It is with great sadness that we announce the death of George James Matthews (Manchester, Massachusetts), who passed away on January 11, 2024, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace James Matthews, Sr. and Catherine Carter Matthews; his great-grandparent Jackson Fairchild; his former wife Hope MacDonald Matthews; and his sisters, Edna (Charles Dankens), Alice Matthews, Thomas Regan and Joan (Frederick Peterson).
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Waters Matthews of Manchester; his children, Karen Matthews of Rockport, MA, Maureen Matthews McClintock (Lon) of Shaftsbury, VT, Kathleen Matthews Rodgers (Robert) of Magnolia, MA and Kevin Matthews (Prema) of Sudbury, MA; his siblings, Ann Regan of Belmont, MA and Wallace of Sherry Loo, M. D.; and his grandchildren, Alex Sorgi (Ryan Fairchild) of Jersey City, NJ, Mark Sorgi, Matthew McClintock of South Burlington, VT, Carter McClintock (Calla Harrington) of Greenfield, MA, Samantha Rodgers of Magnolia, MA, Mikaela Daigle (Matthew) of Magnolia, MA, Derek Rodgers of Magnolia, MA and Ranjani Matthews of Sudbury, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
George and Mikhail Gorbachev were the Foundation's first leaders. The Foundation hosts events for world leaders addressing the issues of economic development, democracy and justice.
