Raymond A. McCarthy Obituary

Raymond McCarthy, 55, a proud new resident of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ray was a man of many passions and great heart. He found joy in the simple and beautiful things in life- reading a good book, capturing moments through his photography, sketching his thoughts into art, or losing himself in music at a concert. He was endlessly curious, always ready for an adventure, and had a deep love for nature and travel. But nothing mattered more to him than time spent with his family.

Above all else, Ray loved being a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a grandad. These roles brought him his greatest joy, pride, and purpose, and he embraced them with his whole heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie and their loyal dog, Wonder; his children, Alison and her husband Michael, Connor and his wife Meaghan, and Billy and his wife Caydee. He was the proud and playful granddad of Benjamin, Belle, Michelle, Cali, and Chloee, who brought endless light into his life. He is also survived by his sister, Alina and her husband Chris; nephews, Kalob, Ayden, and Mason; niece, Joslynn; great-nephew; Deacon; and his cousin, Beverly.

Ray was predeceased by his father, also named Raymond McCarthy.

Ray was proud to be a part of the Conway et al. patent for vaccine transportation packaging- a lasting contribution that reflected both his intellect and his desire to help others. He approached life with a rare combination of brilliance and humor, care and conviction. He was intelligent, funny, loving, supportive, adventurous, artistic, and always ready to share a strong opinion or a heartfelt laugh. If you knew Ray, you were lucky- he left a mark on everyone he met.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
