He was predeceased by: his sibling Henry "Butch" Shimansky of Peabody. He is survived by: his spouse Annmarie Shimansky (Scioly); his child James J., Jr.; his wife Kelley of Gorham; his grandchildren, Kayla, Jillian, Sophia, James, Calvin, Connor, Grace, Courtney, Drew, Colin, Chloe, Jocelyn and Jacklyn; his siblings, Elizabeth DeAngelo of Bedford, Barbara Mahoney of Cambridge, Jay Shimansky and Paul Shimansky of California; and also, Diane Stowe (Robert) of West Roxbury, Michael (Tori) of Reading and Robert (Orietta) of Reading.
