He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Downing and Madeline Downing; his wife Martha C. Ingersoll of Lakeville; his sons, Ross (Mary) of Milton and James Downing of Boston; his grandchildren, Madeline and Conor of Milton; and his sisters, Susan Downing of Weymouth and Elise Dionne (Michael) of Rockland.
