He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hanifin and Mary Hanifin (McManus); and his siblings, Francis Hanifin, Mary Kenney and John.
He is survived by: his wife Katherine "Katie" Hanifin (Murphy); his children, Jimmy (Cindy Hanifin) of Walpole, Kathleen (Eddie Davis) of Norwood, John (Mary Hanifin) of Franklin, Mary Ellen Gilmore, Phil McNulty of Foxboro, Nancy (Paul Devlin) of Mansfield, Tommy (Kelly Hanifin) of Walpole and Bobby (Tina Hanifin) of Needham; and his siblings, Thomas and Robert Maloney. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
