He was predeceased by: his brother Stephen Zella; and his father Alfred Zella. He is survived by: his sons, Michael Zella and Greg Zella of Carver; and his sister Leslie Zella of Hull.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in memory of Rick Zella to support cancer research.
