He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio Soares Fernandes and Maria Soares Chaves; his wife Maria I Fernandes; his brothers, Manuel Fernandes and Antonio Fernandes; and his granddaughter Tamica.
He is survived by: his children, Leonilde Santos (Pedro), Jose Antonio Fernandes, Antonio Dinis Fernandes (Tami) and Carlos Fernandes (Rachel); his siblings, Joao Fernandes (Fatima), Maria Dutra, Maria Jose Bairos (Jose), Eugenia Leal (Joao), Conceicao Resendes (Jose Antonio) and Valentina Chaves (Jose Manuel); his sisters-in-law, Filomena Fernandes, Celeste Fernandes and Helena Resendes (Jose); and his grandchildren, Andrew, Jose, Melissa, Michael, Joanna, Kelsey, Halie, Kyle, Carlos Jr. and Christopher.
