He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles R. DeForest and Joy A. Lewis DeForest. He is survived by: his wife Susan Perry Fitzgerald of Hinsdale; his children, Kimberly Smith (Bruce) of Syracuse, NY and Jeffrey J.; his stepsons, Eric Fitzgerald (Kristen) of Peru, MA, Bryan Fitzgerald of Texas, Steven Fitzgerald (Naomi) of Hinsdale, MA, Kyle Fitzgerald of Hinsdale, MA and Shawn Fitzgerald of Worcester, MA; his stepgrandchildren, Pippin, Windsor, Aurorah and Azaliah; and his siblings, Robert DeForest (Paula) of Pittsfield, David DeForest of Pittsfield, Tina Baumann (William) of Pittsfield, Bonnie Fallon (James) of Pittsfield, Hope Blake (Robert) of Dalton, Polly Whitestone (Kenneth) of Dalton and Patricia Baczek (James) of Dalton. He is also survived by eight nieces and seven nephews, as well as many cousins and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
