Clarence Beatty Obituary

Clarence David “Bud” Beatty of Hingham died at home on March 8th after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born on July 14th, 1929 in Fairview, Illinois of Roland Henry Beatty and Hallie Lillian Keown Beatty, he was the youngest of three, including sister Alta Mae Beatty and brother Estill William Beatty. Bud’s father worked in construction and the family moved more than twenty times while Bud was a child.

Bud was a Staff Sergeant in in the U.S. Army in Germany during the time of the Berlin airlift, then returned to the University of Illinois where he met his wife Jean Webb. He received his B.S. in Engineering in January of 1955 and married Jean in June of the same year. Bud was an engineer in Illinois, New York and finally in Boston at Camp Dresser & McKee, where he worked for over 20 years designing landfills and sanitation systems in the U.S. and overseas.

Throughout his life, Bud was tireless helping family, friends and others. He built a house for his family, and houses for others with Habitat for Humanity. His charitable work also included church projects with the poor in the Dominican Republic and El Salvador.

Bud is survived by his wife, L. Jean Webb Beatty, and by four children: David Beatty and wife Ellie of Newton, MA, Kathy Scanlon and husband Rick of Duxbury, MA, Annette Kerner and partner Anthony Meleo of Stoughton, MA, and Kirk Beatty and wife Alma of San Jose, CA. Bud is also survived by five grandchildren, Joel and Ian Beatty, Casey Kerner, Sandra Scanlon, Cait and husband George Coombs, and one great grandson, R.J.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at UCC Norwell, 460 Main St., Norwell, MA.
