He was predeceased by: his parents, Elinore Mattern Mayer and Howard Lincoln Mayer of Hanson; and also Etta "Dolly" Mayer. He is survived by: his children, Janice L. Mayer of Santa Fe, NM, Nancy Anne Mayer Johnson (John) of Marshfield, MA and David Russell Mayer (Kim) of Halifax, MA.; his sibling Donald (Judith) of Halifax; his grandchildren, Breanna Glynn, Jayanne Glynn, Devan, David Jr., Dylan, Danielle, Destiny Mayer, Paul Perakslis and Krystal Watson; and his friend Carolyn Patten of Marshfield. He is also survived by niece and a nephews.
