He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald H. Bates and Florence L. Bates (Miller). He is survived by: his wife Nancy A. Bates; his sisters-in-law, Barbara A. Rule of So, Hadley and Nancy A. Rule of Belchertown; his niece Joanne L. Wheeler (Hadley) of So; and his nephew Darryl L. Rule of Ballston Spa, NY. He is also survived by many grandnieces, nephews and cousins.
