Virginia E. Sarno Obituary
Virginia Elizabeth Murphy Sarno, 91, of Gloucester, wife of the late Gerald D. Sarno, passed away peacefully at The Residence at Vinnin Square in Swampscott on July 19, 2022. She was born on March 18, 1931, in Providence RI, to the late Joseph A. Murphy and Elizabeth (Rasku) Murphy.
She grew up in Worcester and North Reading and is a graduate of North Reading High School and Colby Jr. College in New London, NH.
During 64 years of marriage, she and Gerry's residences included Hingham MA, Tarrytown NY, Greenwich CT, Baltimore MD, Bethlehem PA, and the majority of their time being spent between Gloucester and New York City.
Besides being the ultimate mother and homemaker to her family (and assorted strays) she also found time volunteering for The Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary, Girl Scouts of America, and the YWCA.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph Anthony Murphy Jr.; daughter, Antoinette Elizabeth (Lisa) Sarno; son, Anthony Joseph Sarno II and his wife Shannon Connolly Sarno, and their son Aedan Anthony Sarno (the light of Virginia's life); sister-in-law, Doris Sarno Bongiorno, and several Sarno, Murphy, Bongiorno, Rasku cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children and spouses.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at The Residence at Vinnin Square and Care Dimensions for their selfless and loving care.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 23rd at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester at 10 am. All attendees are required to wear face coverings during the Mass. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass in Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Family and friends are cordially invited.
