Theodore C. Williams Obituary
Theodore C. "Ted" Williams, 74 of Gloucester husband of Mary C. (Hayes) Williams, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
He was born in Gloucester, MA on January 20, 1948, son of the late Theodore P. and Elizabeth L. (Stickney) Williams. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1966, where he was voted "Most Handsome.". He later attended Salem State receiving his degree in business. He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-71 and had immense pride in his service to his country. He was a staunch Republican who loved wearing his MAGA hat; however, kept most opinions to himself or shared only with his wife.
Ted's career started and ended at New England Telephone, now Verizon. He was a Cable Splicer where his wife was first his work partner, then his partner for life. He then became the Manager of Yellow Pages until he retired in 2006.
Ted was a private man and proud veteran. Ted and his wife travelled our country discovering the beauty of the Southwest and Northwest. They visited Ireland, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Ted would say, "Who says you can't go home again?" after he moved back to Gloucester in 1980 with the love of his life, Mary Hayes Williams. They enjoyed the next 42 years living on Rocky Neck. He bought a neighbor's boat and with his wife, Mary, they discovered Gloucester from the Sea. They enjoyed all its Coves and Beaches, went up the River and the Coast and out to Stellwagen Bank. Even to Boston in '92 for the Tall Ships.
Whenever on land he would never miss a chance to ride the Back Shore enjoying the beauty of this special place. He referred to it as Mudville.
Ted was the epitome of a true gentlemen with a little mischief mixed in. His quiet demeanor and quick wit followed by a chuckle and a radiant smile was the trademark he was well known for. He was full of stories of Good Harbor Beach and Gloucester where he grew up and cared for his mother for last 20 years of her life after his father passed away.
He remembered when he was younger, working across the harbor from his home at the Empire Fish Company with his Dad, Uncles and Brother. He always enjoyed the smell of the fish, saying, "Ahh, that's the smell of liquid gold."Forty-three years later God has called him home to Mudville in Heaven. May he have Fairwinds and calm seas on his journey.
Ted is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary C. Williams of Gloucester; sisters, Margaret Corkum and her husband Robert of Salisbury, MA, Theo Williams of Colorado; his brother, Jeffery S. Williams and his wife Loretta of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis F. Hayes of Newburyport, MA, Veronica Hayes of Wakefield, MA, Barbara Raso and her husband Joe of Tewksbury, MA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
