Teresa McCarthy Obituary

Teresa "Terry" McCarthy, 62, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was the daughter of Shirley (Conrad) McCarthy and the late Ronald G. McCarthy.

Born in Beverly, Terry graduated from Gloucester High School. After graduating, Terry followed her passion and love of horses, which brought her to her career as a thoroughbred racehorse trainer at Suffolk Downs. She then went on to work as a horse trainer at the Tampa Bay Racetrack. She was also involved with NEER North Horse Rescue and volunteered much of her time to helping horses and owners in crisis. When she wasn't caring for and training horses, Terry found immense joy in gardening. She and her mother Shirley could often be found tending to their flower garden at their home.

Terry will be remembered for her genuine and unique sense of humor and her quick wit. The way she could make others laugh and smile was a token of her personality and will be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Terry is survived by her mother, Shirley McCarthy of Ipswich, MA; sisters, Brenda McCarthy of Ipswich, MA and Cindy Holshuh of Surry, NH; brother, Ronald McCarthy and his wife Martha of Ipswich, MA; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Mitchell of Linthicum, MD, Jessica McMahon of Pelham, NH, Alex McCarthy of Beverly, MA, Robert Mitchell of Pelham, NH, Connor McCarthy of Beverly, MA; and her companion, David Miller of Ipswich, MA.

In addition to her father, Terry is predeceased by her grandmother, Bessie Conrad and her brother-in-law, Don Holshuh.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
