Robert P. Strople Obituary
Robert P. (Bob) Strople, 81, of Gloucester, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Kaplan House after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Marsha (Chick). Strople with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Robert was born on February 6, 1943, in Gloucester. He was the son of the late John L. and Mary H. (Iovanni) Strople Sr. Bob was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1961. Upon his graduation, Bob joined the U.S. Army where he completed a three-year active duty enlistment in the 82nd Airborne Division, earning the Parachutist Badge. Bob later worked in retail for over 55 years, first at Bell's Market and then for the Psalidas family at Cape Ann Market. Bob worked at Shaw's after Cape Ann Market was sold until his retirement in 2020.
Bob's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially watching his grandsons play sports. He was often seen on the sidelines cheering them on.
In addition to his loving wife, Marsha, Bob is survived by his daughters, Linda Smith, Lisa Frost (wife of John), and Kathleen Costa (wife of Luis); his cherished grandsons, Brett Smith, Logan Frost, Jason Costa, Shawn Costa; and great-grandsons, Silas and Xavier Smith. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ellen Green and extended family, especially his nephew Brayden and nieces, Grace and Vaida Mae, "the new baby" who often brought a smile to his face.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, John Strople III; his sister, Barbara (Strople) Collins; mother-in-law, Mary E. Chick; father-in-law, Lester M. Chick Sr.; and son-in-law, Shannon Smith.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
