Richard R. Winchester Obituary
Richard "Dick" Roy Winchester, 84, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 14th, 2023, of congestive heart failure.
Richard proudly served in the Army from 1959-1962 as a well-respected Sargent and undefeated boxer. Richard started a small lobster trap building company in his backyard and grew the business to the well-known Winchester Fishing Co. on Washington Street in Gloucester. Richard truly loved his almost 30 years of lobster trap building, fishing supplies, bait & tackle, summer blue fish and striped bass tournaments and holiday festivities like Ladies Night. Richard closed Winchester Fishing in April 2013 and during his retirement he enjoyed cooking, drinking a glass (or two) of wine, watching old movies, and listening to his favorite big band and Sinatra classics.
He is survived by his wife, Bridget Winchester, son Danny Winchester, son Richard Winchester and his fiancé Dana Cowl, daughter Kathleen Palmer and her husband Brian Palmer. Richard loved all 3 of his grandchildren dearly, Daniel Winchester, Keely Palmer, and Teagan Palmer. Richard also leaves behind his sister, Shirley Sagawinia Vassallo, brothers Jimmy Winchester and Bobby Sagawinia, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
His graveside service will be at Beechbrook Cemetery, 401 Essex Avenue, Gloucester, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 1 p.m. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
