Paul Joyce Jr. Obituary

Paul "Larry" Joyce Jr., 78, of Gloucester, passed away in the Blueberry Hill Nursing Home in Beverly on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, following an illness. Paul was born in Gloucester, MA on August 5, 1944, and was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy (Keane) Joyce.

Paul attended Gloucester High School. He enlisted in the Navy. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Gloucester and married his wife of 30 years, Linda (Lufkin) Joyce. He worked at Gloucester Engineering and later became a commercial fisherman. In his 20 years, he fished on a variety of fishing vessels, from day draggers to month long sword fishing trips. He always enjoyed carpentry and later put his skill to building things and remodeling his house.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was so proud of them. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and he and Linda had many rides to New Hampshire. Family Sunday dinners were important to Linda and him when their girls were growing up. In recent years he could be seen walking his dog, Leo, in Manchester with his friend Cathy. They would often be seen sitting out on a bench on a sunny day. Cathy was a special friend to him in his later years. For many years he enjoyed having a tomato garden and enjoyed time in the garden. He was an avid Boston sports fan. He enjoyed watching all the games.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Shelly and Matthew Lane and Kathie and Travis MacKillop; four grandchildren, Nicole Kowalski (and husband Derek), Matthew Lane, Kelly and Jake MacKillop; two great grandchildren, Emmett and Wren Kowalski; a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Cynthia Joyce; a niece, Erika Timmons and three nephews, Benjamin Joyce, Bill Minton and Sean Lufkin.

He was predeceased by his wife Linda; his parents; his grandparents, who raised him; Carlton M. "Jocko" Powers and Mary Ellen "May" (Lennett) Powers; his brother Peter Joyce and a cousin, Mary Ellen McLeod.

There are no visiting hours and his service and burial are being held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester.
