Paul E. Bradstreet Obituary
Gloucester — Paul E. Bradstreet, 93, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester, MA, on August 5, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara P. Bradstreet with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Westbrook, Maine, Paul was the son of Cecil and Florence (Wheelock) Bradstreet. He attended Warwick, RI schools and graduated from Deering High School, Portland, Maine in 1948. He also graduated from the Kent's Hill School, Kents' Hill, ME, and from the University of Maine, Orono in 1953. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and played varsity baseball while at the University of Maine. Paul served in the U.S Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and later Korea.
Paul was employed as a science teacher in the town of Groveton, NH, and coached basketball and baseball. There he became acquainted with his wife, Barbara Pillsbury Bradstreet, who was also an educator and a graduate of the University of Maine. After moving to Massachusetts, they both were employed for by the City of Gloucester, MA as teachers, retiring in 1982. After returning to Maine, Paul worked as a real estate broker. He owned the Bradstreet Group of Yarmouth and served on the Yarmouth, ME Planning Board. Paul was a member of the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, Gloucester, MA and the First Parish Church (Congregational), Yarmouth, ME.
Paul loved and pursued many interests. He enjoyed pets, dancing, playing checkers, and hearing and telling stories of life experiences, particularly from his home state of Maine. His love of sports and exercise continued into his 90s, interests encouraged by the physical therapists and trainers at the Center for Balance Mobility and Wellness at Gordon College. He deeply enjoyed gatherings of family and friends. His kind and helpful ways, his love of simple everyday pleasures, and his interest in others, will be missed by those who knew him.
Paul is survived by his twin daughters and their husbands, Paula and Elwin Richter of Rockport, MA and Pamela and Charles Lazarakis of South Hamilton, MA, and by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Gil Gilpatrick of Brunswick, ME; sisters-in-law Barbara R. Pillsbury of Maine and Christina P. Weiss of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves close family friends, Joanne MacInnis and June Bodoni. Paul's family wants to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Aberdeen Home Care, Inc., Seasons of Danvers, Care Dimensions, Danvers; and Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester for their compassionate care of Paul during his declining health. Paul's family is deeply grateful for the excellent and supportive medical and health care provided by Dr. Deborah Shih of Beverly and staff over many years.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, 1120 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA, 01930, on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11 a.m. with collation following. Burial in Yarmouth, Maine will be private and scheduled on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, 1120 Washington St. Gloucester, MA, 01930 or First Parish Church, 116 Main St, Yarmouth, ME, 04096 or the giver's preferred charity.
