Nancy J. Young Obituary
Nancy J. (Kelly) Young, 81, of Gloucester, wife of the late Edward Young passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, with her loved ones by her side, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA.
She was born in Gloucester, MA on May 9, 1941, the daughter of the late Lester J. and Vieno (Lakso) Kelly. She graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1959.
Family was everything to Nancy. She was a devoted wife to Eddie, a loving mother to Kim, and a caring sister to Pat, Mary, Betty, and Barbara. She and her four sisters were known as the Kelly girls. She was the baby of the family and was loved by all of her big sisters. Nancy and her sister Mary were inseparable throughout their lives.
Nancy met Eddie on a blind date that was set up by her sister Mary. They were happily married for 50 years and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life together. Their nicknames were Fancy Nancy and Steady Eddie.
Nancy was born to be a mother and she was a wonderful and loving one to Kim. They had a very special bond and spent lots of quality time together. Nancy made every day special, and their home was full of encouragement, love, and laughter. They talked to each other on a daily basis and enjoyed watching old movie musicals, attending the Stage Fort Park concerts, shopping and going on garden tours together. Nancy was always ordering items from QVC and enjoyed watching the home decorating shows on HGTV, especially the Property Brothers.
Nancy was sweet, compassionate, glamorous, and kind-hearted. She always had her hair done perfectly with her makeup and earrings on before leaving the house. Her favorite color palette was black and white with lots of bling. She was strong-willed and determined. If you needed someone to stick up for you, then you would want Nancy in your corner. She was always willing and able to help anyone who needed it.
Her first job was at the United Shoe Machine Company in Beverly, where she was a telephone operator. She also worked at Gorton's of Gloucester, initially at their warehouse as a secretary and then as a line worker for over 30 years.
She enjoyed the monthly breakfast gatherings at Destino's with her retired friends, lunches with several different groups of friends: her high school classmates and a group of dear friends that she made more recently.
Nancy took great pride in her home, decorating (and redecorating) it beautifully and tending to her garden. She loved seeing her flowers in bloom, especially the giant-sized hydrangeas and the delicate peonies. She was always posting pictures of them on Facebook.
She loved Rich Quaglia like he was her own son and Marie Mondello was like another daughter to her.
Nancy had a big heart and whenever a family member, friend or co-worker had a loss in their family, she was the first one to bring over some food or just console them with a hug and compassionate words. Comforting people was a natural instinct for her. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her family asks anyone who cares to honor Nancy's legacy, to perform a random act of kindness for someone in need.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Young and her partner Richard Quaglia; sister Patricia (Robert) Ryan of Gloucester, MA; nieces and nephews: Cynthia (Robert) Francis of Gloucester, MA, Michael (Diane) Ryan of Gloucester, MA, Lawrence (Michelle) Ryan of Scituate, MA, Thomas (Shannon) Ryan of Rockport, MA, Daniel Ryan of Amesbury, MA, Susanne (John) Clarke of Danville, NH, Phyllis (Rich) Weir of Ipswich, MA, Laura Ames of Limerick, ME and John Leveille, III of Cape Coral, FL.
