Maureen A. Lumbruno Obituary

Maureen A. (Hemmer) Lumbruno, 68, of Gloucester passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Mass General Hospital in Boston following the unexpected discovery of cancer.

Born in Gloucester on January 29, 1956, Maureen was one of five children of the late Albert and Eunice (Nunes) Hemmer. Always on the go, she was on both the GHS Drill Team and Cheerleading Squad before graduating with Gloucester High School's Class of 1974.

Maureen had a soft spot for both the East & West Coast. California was home for the first few years until she followed her heart back "over the Bridge". Maureen loved the artsy, seaside pulse of Cape Ann and was happy to return to her large extended family and wonderful community of friends.

Maureen rediscovered her own creative and artsy talents along the way. With a spot-on attention to detail, she enjoyed handcrafting countless items including painted mirrors, furniture, colorful accessory pieces and intricate decoupage.

More than anything, Maureen thrived on hard work and independence. She took great pride and pleasure in her position in Gloucester's school system as a Maintenance Custodian for over 25 years. Known for always sharing a smile or kind word, Maureen was very well respected by teachers, staff and especially the students, remaining friends with many for decades.

Her love, kindness, humor, talents and generosity of spirit will be sorely missed, and her resilience and strength will always be admired.

Maureen is survived by her sister, Kathryn (Tommy) Middleton of Gloucester, MA, nephew and Godson, T.J. Middleton, niece, Laurie (Lovasco) Serino, longtime companion and special friend, Roy Turner also all of Gloucester, MA, and numerous cousins and extended generations of family.

In addition to her parents and her deeply loved dog Solomon, Maureen was also predeceased by her sister Mary Lovasco, brothers Albert "Butch" and James "Jimmy" Hemmer and nephew Jerry "Bink" Lovasco.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. 01930.
