Mary J. Verga Obituary
Mary J. (Baptiste) Verga, 90, of Gloucester wife of the late Philip S. Verga Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester.
She was born in Gloucester on July 16, 1932, daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Filetto) Baptiste.
Mary was a graduate of St. Ann's High School. In her earlier years, she worked as a nurse's aide doing home duty and later worked for Gorton's of Gloucester and Kennebec. She still truly enjoyed working as a caretaker and housekeeper.
She loved cooking, especially for the fisherman, her neighborhood and even catered food for the Crow Nest. Every year she couldn't wait till the St. Peter's Fiesta.
Mary's favorite job in the world was caring for her grandchildren, they meant the world to her. She was a member of the DES Club, Mother of Grace Club, and the Madonna Del Rosario Society.
She will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived her children, Joanne Giovinco, Kim Rogers, Corrine Robbins and her husband Kyle, Philip Verga Jr., Dominic Verga and his wife Marie; grandchildren, Dominic Giovinco and his fiance' Kayla Soule, Peitro Giovinco Jr., and his wife Courtney, Francesco Giovinco, Desiree Rogers and her fiance' Michael Oliver, Nathaniel Araujo, Dominic Verga Jr. and Nicholas Verga; great-grandchildren, Aunabella Giovinco, Amrious Giovinco, Averian Giovinco, Faith Rivera, Tahj-Philip Rivera, Dakota Dunn and her brother, Joseph Baptiste; niece, Stephanie and her husband James Belcher and nephew Trey Yuonne.
She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Geraldine Souza, and Therese Trulove; brother, Philip Baptiste; her 2 sons-in-law, Pietro Giovinco Sr., and Ronald 'Bam Rogers.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Wednesday, March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
