Mary G. Vagos Obituary
Mary G. (Maciel) Vagos, 94, of Gloucester, passed away September 1st, 2024, at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. Mary was the wife of the late Francesco S. Vagos.
She was born in Sao Roque, Pico, Acores on November 27, 1929, daughter of the late Americo and Lucilla (Goulart) Maciel.
Mrs. Vagos came to America spending time in California, and later settling in Gloucester where she worked at Mighty Mac as a stitcher for many years. Later in life she also worked at Gorton's, Seafood Kitchens, and Rule Industries.
She was a former member of the DES Club. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by a son Michael Vagos of Tewksbury, stepson; Frank Vagos and his wife, Beverly, daughter-in-law Janice, all of Beverly; four grandchildren; Kristen Galbreath and her husband, Scott, Jeremy Vagos, Andrew Vagos, and Jennifer Vagos all of Beverly; four great-grandchildren, Grace Galbreath, Kylie Resnick, Phoebe Zubiel & Zoey Zubiel; nieces and nephews, Candida Marshall of Gloucester, Julio Vagos of New Hampshire, Edith Martins of New Bedford, Dorothy Sheaves of Middleton, and Marcalo Vagos of Derry, N.H.; as well as several cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lucilla Goulart Maciel and Americo Maciel; husband Francisco S. "Frank" Vagos; a brother, Manuel Goulart Maciel; her brothers-in-law Marcalo, Manuel and Mario Vagos; sisters-in-law Dorothy, Candida, and Rosa Vagos; a stepson, David Vagos, a granddaughter; Alicia Resnick, and a nephew, Danny Vagos.
Visiting hour will be held in the Greely Funeral Home 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Friday, September 6, from 9:30-10:30am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester at 11am. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
