Mark W. Leonard Obituary
Mark Leonard, beloved father and husband, 48, of Gloucester, MA, passed away on August 11th, 2024, leaving a void his family cannot fill.
Mark Leonard was born in Melrose, MA, on October 23, 1975, at Melrose Wakefield Hospital, to Barry E. Leonard and Nancy McCarthey. Mark has worked at the Georgetown Water Department for 24 years.
Mark will be remembered for who he always was - a devoted father, husband, and son, a friend to all who met him, an infectious laugh that made any empty hall feel whole, a bold spirit who spent his life bringing endless joy, love, and laughter to everyone he met.
On any given day, you could find Mark alongside his bride, Julie Leonard, his high school sweetheart who he fell in love with at the age of 16 years old. The two met as Mark was playing basketball and Julie was on the sidelines, they have been inseparable ever since. Their time was spent raising their two beautiful daughters, Allison and Ashlee Leonard, sharing with them his passions of boating, spending days on Wingaersheek Beach, and exploring restaurants. He was a dedicated, affectionate, and nurturing father and husband. His lively nature and witty humor will live on forever as each moment with him was an adventure.
He is survived by his father, Barry E. Leonard. His loving wife, Julie Leonard, of 32 years. His daughters, Ashlee (Jojo Klyce) and Allison Leonard (Chris Paul). His siblings, Jennifer Murray (Chad Murray), Jill Leonard, Sean McCarthey, and John Cordwell. His mother-and-father-in-law, Charlie and Lorraine Deflice. His good friend Uncle Guy Deflice. His sister-in-law, Christina McClintock (Joshua McClintock). His nieces and nephews, Sarah McClintock, Erin Johnson, Morgan Carleton, and Johnny and Shelby Belknap. As well as his animals, Simba, Oliver, Levi, and Jake.
As the Irish blessing goes, 'Until we meet again,' and we surely shall. 'May God hold you in the palm of his hand.'
Mark Leonard's celebration of life will be held on September 8th, 2024, from 2-5 p.m. at Cape Ann Marina 75 Essex Avenue, Gloucester. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
