Mark S. Spanks Obituary
Mark Spanks passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 12, 2024, after battling an extended illness at the age of 66.
Mark graduated from Gloucester High School class of 1976, where he attended GHS' vocational school for carpentry. Mark was an outstanding and talented carpenter and owned his own LLC called MBS Builders. Once he retired from his own company, he joined Albany Engineering. Mark was an extremely hard worker; he loved his job and all his coworkers. Even through his illness, Mark was always looking forward to work and could not wait to return.
Growing up Mark played Little League for the Dodgers with Coach Tom Lattof and went on to play Cape Ann Babe Ruth for the Insurance Agents with his father Robert Spanks as the coach. Mark also played local peewee football and played until he injured his knee. He loved watching sports and was a die-hard Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots fan, he always had faith his favorite teams would win.
Mark loved music and was a self-taught drummer. He was part of the following bands, MacDuff, Tommy and the Toyz, The Looks, Gail Savage and the Looks, Imbalance and Bad Toyz. Mark really enjoyed his friendships and making music with his bandmates. He enjoyed attending concerts and shared that same interest with his son, Adam.
His son, family and friends remember him as an amazing carpenter, hardworking, happy-go-lucky, always smiling, life of the party jokester. Mark loved his family and was always willing to help and wouldn't say no when asked. Mark truly loved his family and friends and was grateful for those he had in his life. Mark's big personality and huge smile will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Mark is survived by his son, Adam Spanks, and his mother Tara Mathews; grandson, Aaron Spanks all of Biddeford, ME; siblings, Robert Spanks and wife Annette of Florida, Christopher Spanks of Gloucester, Kathleen (Spanks) Skrobacz of Wareham, Robin (Spanks) Roberts and husband Richard of Wilmington and Carol (Spanks) McLaughlin and husband Patrick of Gloucester, along with many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anna Spanks; maternal grandparents, Angelina and Teotonio Lopes; paternal grandparents, Myron and Margaret Spanks and nephews, Mark Skrobacz, Paul Spanks and Stevphen Skrobacz.
