Maria J. Carrancho Obituary

Maria J. (Padre) Carrancho, 90, of Gloucester. wife of the late Anthony S. Carrancho, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, soon after suffering a stroke.

She was born in Ilhavo, Portugal on August 10, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Rodrigoes) Padre. When not living in Gloucester, Maria lived in Brownsville, TX from 1956 to 1971, in New Bedford, MA from 1971 to 1974, and in North Dartmouth, MA from 1996 to 2020.

Maria was a licensed Cosmetologist and enjoyed working with customers. She enjoyed meeting people, gardening, sewing, and modifying recipes to make them "her own.". Maria loved to cook for her family and hosted family get-togethers whenever possible. Family meant the world to her.

Maria's last wishes included that she be remembered in life, not in death, and for all of us to keep our trust in God and to love each other. Maria's daughter and grandson truly appreciate the care, love, and friendship extended to Maria by every staff member at Seacoast's Atlantic Shores unit while she resided there. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria Lionor "Lee" Alatorre and her husband, David, of San Antonio, Texas; grandson Anthony J. Carrancho of Riverside, RI; sisters-in-law Joanna Carrancho of Gloucester, MA, and Natalia Pimenta of Peabody, MA; brother-in-law George S. Carrancho of Brownsville, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, George Anthony Carrancho and his wife Madeleine, brothers John B. Padre and Alcides Padre, and her sister Rose Leal.

Visiting hours, service and burial were held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, with her burial in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester, MA.
