Maria G. Taormina Obituary
Maria Grazia (Aliua) Taormina, 69, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday morning August 4th, 2024, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a short illness took her life.
Born in Terrasini, Sicily on November 17, 1954, she was the loving daughter of the late Matteo and Giuseppina Aluia. Maria was born and raised in Terrasini, Sicily and moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts when she was 21, where she had her two sons and lived her remaining years.
She enjoyed cooking, knitting, reading, and Italian music. Maria had a strong faith that helped guide her through her life. She loved spending time with her family, as family meant everything to her. She worked many jobs, including but not limited to Gorton's of Gloucester, Cape Ann Motor Inn and former Bass Rocks Hotel. Later in life Maria proudly became an American Citizen in 2003. She was very proud to be an American and equally proud of her Sicilian heritage. Maria will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, devout Christian, hard worker, good cook, and great friend.
She is survived by her sons, Frank Taormina and his wife Jennifer of Rowley, MA and Matteo Taormina and wife, Jaime of Newfields, NH; grandchildren, Anna, Max, Vanessa, and Tyler; brother, Nicola Aluia and his wife Rosalia of Terrasini, Sicily; as well as her niece Giuseppina, and nephews Matteo and Sergio.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be a private funeral service, and her burial will be held the following day at Dolliver Memorial Cemetery, Lincoln Street, West Gloucester, MA.
