Lyle R. Coons Obituary
The family of Lyle R. Coons is saddened to announce his unexpected passing on December 15, 2024, at his home in Manchester-By-The Sea. Lyle was many things to many people; a husband, a father, a brother, grandfather, a friend, a chef, a painter… the list goes on far longer than this space allows—and longer still than he would prefer.
Of all the roles he played in peoples' lives, the one he will be most remembered for is that of a caretaker. From cooking meals for fundraisers at the legion, to coaching his childrens' soccer games, to bouncing around town tending to any number of odd jobs and favors, he excelled at making others feel taken care of.
As his children grew and built lives of their own, he found great joy in travel with Diane and his good friends Kit and Kathy Weld. He also easily settled into his role as a grandfather, taking his family out on the water that played such an important role in his life.
He is survived by his wife Diane, his sons Ryan and Tyler, his grandchildren Sebastian and Nora, his mother Diane Demille, as well as his sister Stephanie and brothers Fritz, Loren, Damon, and Derek. He will be dearly missed, not just within the walls of his home, but by all who had the good fortune to know him.
A service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to either the Boy Scouts Troop 3 in Manchester, or to The Hooper Fund.
Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
