Kenneth J. Aptt Sr. Obituary
Kenneth J. Aptt, 93, husband of the late Willa (Mack), of Gloucester passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Seacoast Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. Ken and Willa had shared 65 years of marriage.
Ken was born in Gloucester on June 13, 1930, son of the late Howard A. and Louise E. (Amaral) Aptt.
A proud Army veteran, Ken served during Korean War in Germany as a truck driver, medic and MP and was on the football team. When he returned home, he was employed at Cape Ann Forge in Gloucester as lathe machinist and forger foreman. He later worked at Matheson Gas as head of maintenance and retired from there.
He was a coach of little league baseball and peewee youth hockey. His favorite loves besides his family were golf, hockey, softball, pool, any sport you name it. Golf trips were a passion and pool hustling to help pay bills was a plus for the family.
He was a member of all the veteran clubs in town, especially the Gloucester VFW post 1624 where he had served as a post commander. Recently Pratty's C.A.V. renamed the Monday night pool league to the Kenny Aptt pool league in recognition of his love for Pool, Pratty's and for the Game of Life.
He would help anyone in need and was there for everybody, whenever and wherever and could fix anything or try too anyway! He was a success at whatever he undertook. He had that infectious laugh and smile accompanied sometimes by a little white lie to keep him out of trouble. One of a kind, loved by all.
He is survived by his three children, Teri Jones of Manchester, NH, Kenneth J. Aptt, Jr. (Roberta Sutherland Aptt) and Michael S. Aptt (Barbara Dekant Aptt) of Gloucester. He also leaves behind grandchildren Danni Dekant (companion John Burnham), Derek Aptt (companion Meaka Camille) and Dylan Aptt, all of Gloucester. He also has five great grandchildren, Tyler Aptt of Danvers, MA, Landon, Lincoln, Lennox and Layna Aptt of Gloucester, MA. He was predeceased by grandson Travis Aptt (companion Kendra Ireland) and son-in-law Larry Jones (Teri Aptt Jones).
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester on Monday, June 10, from 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held at Greely Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 11, at 11am followed by a burial at Beechbrook Cemetery.
