Kathryn F. Radcliffe Obituary
Kathryn (Phillips) Radcliffe, wife of John "Jack" A. Radcliffe, passed from this world peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023. She was surrounded by her family at Scalabrini Villa Nursing Home in North Kingstown, RI after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Kathy is survived by her husband and two children, Michael Radcliffe of McLean, VA and wife Dalene Radcliffe, and Terri Radcliffe of Newburyport, MA, and her husband Ron St. Pierre. Kathy was blessed with six grandchildren, E. Ryan Walsh, Kai R. Walsh, Michael J. Walsh, Jennifer R. (Radcliffe) Lancaster, Brittany R. Radcliffe, and Chelsea M. Radcliffe, as well as a great-grandchild, Theodore M. Lancaster.
Kathy was born in Lynn, MA on December 13th, 1942. She grew up on Virginia Terrace in Lynn with her parents Mary E. (Laubner) Phillips and Kenneth A.Phillips. Kathy had extraordinary family memories as one of six children, Patricia Phillips (deceased), Richard Phillips (deceased), Shirley (Phillips) Magill of Charleston, SC, Robert Phillips of Annapolis, MD, and John Phillips of Gloucester, MA. Kathy moved to Madawaska, ME to attend her first three years of high school and then moved to Gloucester to complete her senior year.
Shortly after graduating, she quickly fell in love with another Gloucester High School graduate, Jack Radcliffe, while he was on leave from the Marine Corps. They married and moved to Wyoming after his service so Jack could complete his studies at the University of Wyoming. While living in student housing, they welcomed their first son, Michael, followed by their daughter, Terri. The family returned to Gloucester and settled on Wheelers Point along the Annisquam River. They would remain there until Kathy's illness, at which point they moved to Wakefield, RI in order to be near her daughter and her grandchildren.
Kathy was an active member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Lay Carmelite Order. She had a busy social life playing tennis with an amazing group of women, which transitioned to a bridge group where the fun continued. The ocean was truly her happy place; boating, kayaking, and digging for clams brought her an abundance of joy. But her greatest love was spending time with family; always involving endless hours of canasta, boogie boarding at good Harbor, and telling stories on the porch overlooking The Annisquam River.
Kathy had an infectious laugh and was filled with spirit, fun, and love. She was passionate about her faith and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her unconditional love of family was a major part of her personality and character, a legacy that will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Kathy's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester, MA, at 10:30 a.m.on Friday, January 27th. The burial service will follow at Seaside Cemetery in Lanesville.
