Julia E. Jeffery Obituary
Julia E. (O'Connor) Jeffery, 94, of Gloucester, wife of the late Richard K. Jeffery Sr., passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. Julie was born in Rockport, MA on March 27, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Gerald and Anna (Scanlon) O'Connor.
Julie grew up as a member of St. Joachim's parish in Rockport. Her catholic faith played a central role in her life. She attended Rockport Public Schools and graduated high school in 1946 as class Valedictorian. Julie later trained and worked as a laboratory technician at Salem Hospital.
She met her husband Dick upon his return from World War II. The couple shared a love of Big Band music and dancing, especially the jitterbug. The couple raised their sons Bill and Rick in Gloucester. Julie's favorite place on earth was Good Harbor Beach. Most days she and her children arrived at Good Harbor at breakfast and did not leave until dinner time.
She worked at a number of retail jobs including, Nelson's and Blanchard's of Gloucester. Julie was always an avid reader and close follower of current events and politics. She devoured the Boston Globe and Gloucester Times every day. She was a proud lifelong Democrat. Julie seldom missed a Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins or Patriots broadcast. She was truly a remarkable woman and will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children William Jeffery of Gloucester and Rick Jeffery of Hamilton, and her two grandsons Greg and Sean Jeffery of Hamilton, and many nieces and nephews. Julie was predeceased by her grandson Michael Jeffery.
Her visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St, Gloucester from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Following the hour, a service will be held at 11:30 am and burial will be in Beechbrook Cemetery in West Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited.
