Josphine R. Calomo Obituary

Josephine R. (Curcuru) Calomo, 86, of Gloucester wife of Vito J. Calomo passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Ledgewood Nursing Home in Beverly.

She was born in Gloucester on October 11, 1936, daughter of the late John "Gene" and Irene (Nunes) Curcuru.

Josie attended St. Ann's School, Central Grammar School and was a graduate of Gloucester High School.

Josephine worked for many years at Kennebec as a fish packer and later driving the courtesy shuttle for Sudbay Motors.

Josie loved picking blueberries and making her famous Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins and cakes. Her passion was cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was known for her holiday treats like her Easter egg cookies, Thanksgiving sky-high apple pie and her Christmas lady finger ricotta pie. Josie's children and grandchildren were her passion, above all else. She also loved her job as a courtesy shuttle driver, because of all the people she got to meet and talk to each day and the free tubs of ice-cream once a year. It was never a boring ride with her colorful and sometime dry sense of humor. Her family will never forget the smell of her famous sugo and meatballs filling the house every Sunday.

Josie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Vito J. Calomo; daughter Allison Cecilio and her fiance' Jack Anderson; sons, Thomas Randazza, Sandy J. Calomo and his wife Lorenza Calomo; grandchildren, Robbie Arnold and his wife Krystle Arnold, Rachael Cecilio, Sophia Cecilio and Vito P. Calomo; 3 great-grandchildren, Cameron Arnold, Charlize Arnold and Remi Arnold; sister, Jean Favazza; sisters-in-law, Ida Beaver, Nina Ciccariello and her husband Joseph; brothers-in-law, Michael Calomo and his wife Nina, Samuel Calomo and his wife Susan; many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she adored.

She is predeceased by her brother, Benjamin Curcuru; brother-in-law, Salvatore "Sam" Favazza and son-in-law, John F. Cecilio.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Gloucester. All attendees are required to wear face covering during Mass. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 309.
