Joseph L. Sauve Obituary

Joseph (Joe) L Sauve of Gloucester, MA passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born in Danvers, MA to Gustav and Evelyn (O'Leary) Sauve on May 30, 1937. He attended school in Danvers, MA. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1956-1959 serving on the USS Intrepid. Joe met the love of his life, Marie, in 1959 while on leave from the Navy. They were married on June 12, 1960. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the I.U.O.E. Local 4 for 55 years.

Joe was a very quiet family man. He enjoyed camping, stock car and Nascar racing, playing bingo at Foxwoods and traveling. His favorite trips included Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry and Disney World with his entire family. In his younger years, he was a drummer with the Norman Prince Drum Corp. He enjoyed traveling and chaperoning with the Gloucester High School Marching Band. Joe enjoyed Country Music and dancing with his wife; especially at family weddings. He was always last off the dance floor. He looked forward to and enjoyed his visits with his extended family from Maine. He was very proud of his work and enjoyed telling stories of all the different construction projects that he was part of.

Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie (Muise) Sauve, daughters Joanne Sauve and her wife Kathy Payton, Cheryl (Sauve) Christo, and his son Joseph Sauve, Jr and his wife Emma (Sears) Sauve. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Joseph Sauve III and his wife Ashley (Shoares) Sauve, Anthony Christo III, Jessica (Sauve) McHugh and her husband Robert McHugh, Nicholas (Nick) Christo, Stephanie Sauve and her fiancé Dustin Walker, and Joshua Christo and his wife Lauren (Ellis) Christo. He is also survived by his 10 great grandchildren Caleb, Jayden, Gabby, Henry, Vaeda Mae, Ana, Matthew, Olivia, Emily and Rory. Joe is survived by his sister Shirley Frasier of Fairfield Maine and his brother-in-law Ronald Muise of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents Evelyn and Gustav Sauve, his mother-in-law Helen Muise, and father- in-law George Muise, his son-in-law Anthony (Tony) Christo Jr., sisters-in-law Carole Fontaine, and Barbara Lane, and brothers-in-law Donald Frasier, Robert Muise, Kenneth Muise and George Muise.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
