John S. Powell Jr. Obituary

John S. Powell Jr., 71, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. John was born in Boston, MA on February 28, 1952, and was the son of the late John S. and Jean L. (McKearney) Powell of Dover, MA.

John lived an adventurous young life and maintained a vast appreciation for wildlife and the natural world. He found a love in horse racing and spent many years taking annual trips to Gulfstream and Saratoga Springs. He spent many summers renting the same lakeside cottage in Saratoga and weekend visits from his daughter were some of his happiest days. John had a lifelong culinary passion, and his recipes are staples in the kitchens of his family. John struggled immensely with his health throughout his life, but despite his suffering, John was someone whose quick wit never failed and who thought deeply about the world at large. He will be dearly missed.

John is survived by his daughter Jessica, her husband Paul, and their daughter, Nora, of Canaan, NH, sister Nancy and her husband Marc of Buckland, MA, their sons Eric and Matt, and his brother Richard of Virginia Beach, VA.
