John R. Rudolph Obituary
John Robert Rudolph, affectionately known by his friends and family as Bob, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 14, 2024.
Born in Gloucester on July 11, 1931, he was one of the triplet sons of the late Wylie and Blanche B. (McLean) Rudolph. John was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1951. Following high school John married his high school sweetheart, Lorriane Cluett, with whom he enjoyed 65 years of marriage before her passing 2018.
John joined the Air Force in July of 1951 and served until July 1955. Upon returning from the Air Force, John briefly attended Bentley College. He worked for many years at Charlie's Liquor Store, and then as a custodian at the Rockport Public Schools, a job he cherished. After retirement John went to work for Connor's Pharmacy making close friends. Music was an important part of Bob's life. He played the drums in the Rockport Legion Band for over 20 years, and was also active in the Boston Firemans's Band. In later years you could find him at the Rockport Legion Sunday concerts enjoying the music. A life long member of Trinity Congregational Church, he served as treasurer for 31 years and sang in the choir for over 25 years.
Throughout the years John enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Lorraine. They had some favorite spots including Montreal, New York City, Vermont and Washington DC. Family was very important to John. He was one of six brothers, and enjoyed a close relationship with his many nieces and nephews. You could find Bob and his brothers every Wednesday morning catching up over a cup of coffee at Brother's Brew in Rockport. He enjoyed being at home reading or watching his favorite TV shows such as M.A.S.H. and the Andy Griffith Show.
John is survived by his brothers, Archie and wife Phyllis and family, Clarence and wife Mary Jane and family, Levi and wife Lorraine and family, sisters-in-law, Geraldine Nichols and husband Lionel and family and Susan Cluett and family. John was lovingly cared for by his niece, Martha Rumble and her family for the past six years.
John was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine; brothers, Harvey and Wylie Rudolph; brothers-in-law, Hubert and Ronald Cluett; sister-in-law, Ginger Cluett; nephew, Robbie Cluett; and niece, Deborah Rudolph Cameron.
John's funeral will be at Trinity Congregational Church in Gloucester on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Visiting hours will be held in the church from 10-11 a.m. immediately followed by a service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Gloucester.
