John Favazza Obituary
John "Jose" Favazza, a lifelong Gloucester resident, passed away on August 2nd surrounded by his loving family after a two year prolonged illness. He was the son of Joseph and Grace (Aiello) Favazza. John graduated Gloucester high in 1970 alongside his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Maria (San Paolo), whom he married in 1972.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army before starting a family with Maria. Together, they raised four daughters - Janine, Marissa, Deanna, and Joanna. John took great joy and pride in spending time with his 12 grandchildren, bonding over sports talk, Disney vacations, and family dinners. He enjoyed spending time in his meticulously cared for yard. He also enjoyed being in charge and sharing his wealth of knowledge on many subjects. People close to him will understand.
John was an avid golfer and enjoyed many vacations to Aruba and cruising. Along with spending winters in his Melbourne, Florida home. He had a successful 40+ year career in the waste management industry, working at both local and national levels. He was widely respected in his role initiating recycling in the area.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria; daughter, Janine Colbert and her husband Dan, their children Mariah, Kayla, Jackson and Jameson, daughter, Marissa Rafferty and her husband Thomas, their children Tyler, Katherine, and Julianna, daughter, Deanna Plumb and her husband Ryan, their children Brayden, Jayson, and Addison, daughter, Joanna McKay and her husband Matt, their children Dylan and Donovan.
He is also survived by his mother Grace; brothers, Joseph and Donna Favazza, Paul and Rebecca Favazza, Stephen and Susan Favazza; sisters, Jolene Erickson and Lianne Palazola; in laws, Virginia and Steve Marino, David San Paolo and dear friends, Joey and Bonnie Mitchell.
John was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; parents-in-law, Mariano and Josephine San Paolo; brother, Tory Favazza and sister-in-law, Denise San Paolo.
John was part of a large, close-knit family. When he passed away, he left behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will deeply miss his presence.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Tuesday, August 6, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. with a service starting at 6:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
