Jerry R. Houle Obituary
Jerry R. Houle, 81, of Gloucester, passed away in the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Bedford, MA on Friday, March 17, 2023. Jerry was born in Gloucester, MA on July 26, 1941, and was the son of the late Louis A. and Evelyn M. (Rogers) Houle.
Jerry graduated from Gloucester High School and enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served our country proudly during the Vietnam war. When he returned home, he continued on and earned his master's plumber's license and opened his own plumbing business and was known as "The Super Plumber".
In his younger years he played baseball and was a professional pool player throughout the North Shore. Jerry was an avid gardener and loved anything to do with the ocean, be it sport fishing or just watching the never-ending beauty of the sea. He was always very involved in youth sports and enjoyed helping and supporting the youth. He loved all animals and took great pleasure in raising German Shepherds.
Jerry was a lifelong member of the Captain Lester S. Wass, American Legion Post #3 in Gloucester.
He is survived by his son, Rejean Houle, his sister Marie Ryan, nephew Scott Ryan, niece Lisa Grossi, all of Gloucester; niece Laurie Ryan of FL; granddaughter Lily Anne Houle; good friends Audrey Maloy and Vinnie Tocco and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his former wife Barbara Houle.
His graveside service will be held on Friday, March 31, at 11:30 a.m., in Beechbrook Cemetery in West Gloucester, with military honors. Family and friends are cordially invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to: Captain Lester S. Wass, American Legion Post 3, 8 Washington St. Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, MA.
