Jaime F. Garcia Obituary

Jaime F. Garcia 88, of Gloucester, died on the evening of July 5th, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Pico Azores, on September 26, 1935, son of the late Francesca (Oliveira) Garcia and the late Manuel F. Garcia.

Jaime came to America when he was 31 to be with his parents who had come the year before to make a better life for their family. He worked at several different places over the years including The Leather Factory in Peabody, Gorton's, and finally in his later years, an excavation company.

He was often celebrated for his strength. You could take one look at his hands and know how strong of a man he was. Some say he had the strength of an ox. If you needed it dug, moved, or built, Jaime was who you'd call. And he'd happily come time after time helping many family members and friends with projects big and small.

He had a strong, rugged, exterior but was a teddy bear on the inside. You could always find Jaime at the head of the table at family gatherings, birthdays and holidays. He had the biggest, sweet tooth, always asking for seconds and even thirds. Sometimes calling on the help of the kids to sneak him another cookie or treat. He loved the kids in his family most of all, always asking for this one or that one on a daily basis right to the end.

He was a member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church.

Jaime was often greeted by anyone who knew him with, "Oh Jaime!". We know that all who passed before him are greeting him this way now and wrapping him in their love.

An extra special thank you to Sra. Maria and Senor Antonio for helping us take good care of our uncle these last two years with nothing but love and kindness.

Jaime is survived by two sisters, Maria da Silva of Gloucester, and Isabel Pinho of Hayward, Calif; two nieces, Lisa Jonas of Gloucester and Linda Amaral and her husband Lino Amaral of Concord, Calif; three nephews, Manuel E.G. da Silva, Jose M. da Silva and his wife Danyle da Silva all of Gloucester, and Joseph Pinho of Hayward, Calif; 5 grandnieces, Emily Cote and her husband Derek of Gloucester, Gabriella Jonas of Gloucester, Monica Amaral and Lindsey Amaral of Concord, Calif; and Melissa Pinho of Hayward Calif; two grandnephews, Joseph Pinho of Manteca Calif; and Matthew Amaral and his wife Felicia of Fremont, Calif; 3 great-grandnephews, David Beck of Hayward Calif; Hunter Pinho of Manteca Calif; and Jack Cote of Gloucester.

He was predeceased by his brother, Manuel F. Garcia Jr. of Gloucester, his brothers-in-law, Manuel N. da Silva of Gloucester and Joseph Pinho of Hayward California.

A visitation will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
