Gregory Adams Hill Obituary
Jon Gregory Adams Hill (known as Greg), passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025.
Greg was born on October 18, 1941, in Beverly, MA. He lived his entire life on the North Shore, except when he attended Proctor Academy and Kenyon College. Family was at the center of Greg's life. He adored his mother Pauline Reynard Hill and father John Beckford Hill. As he was born to them relatively late in their lives, he also had the love and protection of his two much older sisters, Caroline Farr Thomas and Nancy Herndon. They were an integral part of his life.
The Masons were his other love. He was a life member of Liberty Lodge and the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. As a fourth generation Freemason, he followed in the footsteps of his great-great-great grandfather, John Beckford Hill, who was a charter member of Liberty Lodge in 1824. Greg rose to become Most Wise Master of the Emmanuel Chapter of Rose Croix in Salem, serving from 1989-1992. He was coroneted a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, North Mason Jurisdiction, USA, in Boston on August 27, 1996. It was a proud day in his life.
For many years he served as an integral member of the Liberty Players, a group of North Shore and Cape Ann Masons who performed Masonic plays in lodges and at social events. He was fearless on stage and enjoyed dramatic speech and acting.
Greg retired from a long career at the Bank of Boston where he worked as a systems analyst. Prior to beginning his banking career, he was employed by Lee & Moody Funeral Home in Beverly, MA.
He is survived by his niece, Lynne Herndon, of Wilmington, NC, and his nephews Douglas Beckford Herndon, of Westlake, OH, and Peter Scott Farr of Buckingham, PA. They will remember him with great affection for his humorous quips and lively spirit.
Greg was buried in Central Cemetery in Beverly on April 17, 2025, at a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation (http://www.alzfdn.org).
