Franceso Sanfilippo Obituary

Francesco "Cicco" Sanfilippo, 85, husband of Maria (Zizzo) Sanfilippo, passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Francesco was born in Porticello, Sicily on January 20, 1940, the son of the late Domenico and Vincenza Sanfilippo.

Cicco was in the Merchant Marines for many years, traveling the world by sea before settling in Gloucester in 1971. He established a career as a commercial fisherman to support his family before retiring in 2004. Though his work often kept him away, his heart was always anchored at home with his beloved wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren, who were the absolute light of his life. He worked tirelessly to provide, ensuring that his family never went without, and in doing so, he taught us the values of hard work, resilience, and sacrifice. Cicco found joy in reading romance novels, comic books and watching old cowboy movies. In summertime you could find him tending to his garden. He cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his wife Maria, whom he shared 54 years of marriage, he leaves his daughter, MaryGrace Vestal and her husband Michael Vestal, grandchildren Mia, Michael and Marisa; his son, Joseph Sanfilippo and his fiancé Brooke; grandchildren, Jay, Julian, and Elly; five brothers, Simone, Nick, Giuseppe, Nino, and John; and three sisters, Dora Giorlando, Maria D'Amico and Girolama Melodia; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church at 11 a.m. following the visitation. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
