David P. Lovett Obituary
David P. Lovett, 62, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with his loving daughters by his side at Beverly Hospital, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Gloucester, MA, on October 3, 1962, he was the son of the late Peter and Marion (Clark) Lovett.
David was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1980. He worked for Waste Management before following in his father's footsteps and becoming a proud firefighter for the City of Gloucester in 1995. He served with dedication until his retirement in 2020, earning many commendations throughout his career. Beyond his firefighting career, he was skilled in many trades, working as a clam digger, painter, and alarm installer.
David had an extensive knowledge and deep passion for sports. Throughout his life, he played softball, darts, horseshoes, woods golf, and street hockey. He cherished his annual football trips with friends and looked forward to ice fishing every winter. His passion for music extended beyond listening—he was a master of trivia and attended countless concerts with his daughters and friends. With his quick wit and humor, David could bring laughter to any room, and his kindness ensured he was always there when someone needed a hand. He had an extraordinary ability to strike up a conversation with a stranger and walk away with a new friend.
Raised in West Gloucester, he was fortunate to be surrounded by many great people throughout his life. Among his closest lifelong friends were Billy Goveny, Ronald Gibbs, Paul Serrin, and Joe Steline—bonds that remained strong from childhood through the years.
David's greatest joy was his family. A devoted father and grandfather, he loved nothing more than spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Bruins, often watching games with Nichole, Joe, and Luke. He and his daughter Elizabeth shared a special bond over their morning coffee runs, a daily ritual they both treasured. His thoughtful birthday and Christmas gifts were always the highlight of the season, and his grandchildren adored their "Grampy Dave.".
David is survived by his daughters, Nichole Johnson and her husband Joseph and Elizabeth Lovett, both of Gloucester; his siblings, Gary Lovett and his wife Lola (Greeke) Lovett, Dale Lovett and his wife Maria (Curcuru) Lovett, and Susan Lovett, all of Gloucester; cherished grandchildren, Jasmine DeCoste, Michael, Adrianna, and Dallas Farese, and Alexis and Luke Johnson, as well as his former wife, Donna (Lovasco) Lovett, will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peter & Marion (Clark) Lovett; his grandparents, Eliot & Lois (Rowe) Lovett and Walter & Doris (Perry) Clark, and his Aunt Janet Cooney, Aunt Harriet & Uncle Victor Maffei.
His visitation will be held at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
