David A. Horne Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce that David (Butch) Horne passed away on February 17, 2025. Butch was born in Gloucester, the eighth child of Archibald and Grace (Sonia) Horne. He leaves behind so many cherished memories with those he loved.
Butch graduated from St. Ann's High School in 1961, where he loved playing basketball. He spent most of his teenage years at Burnham's field playing basketball with his good friend Bob McEachern and in his later years he often played basketball at Middleton playground. He had a lifelong love for all Gloucester sports and often attended games with his good friend Lenny Orlando.
Butch married the love of his life, MaryAnn Lupo in April of 1964. MaryAnn and Butch enjoyed making their home and raising their family in West Gloucester, where he lived until his death.
Butch held several positions during his 40+ year career with Gloucester Engineering, starting as a truck driver and finishing as a production coordinator. He built many great friendships during his career and considered Gloucester Engineering to be part of his family.
Butch enjoyed traveling and was always anxiously awaiting their next vacation. Their travels included Hawaii, Alaska, the Azores, Italy, a Viking Cruise through Europe, and visiting many of the Caribbean Islands.
He loved spending time with friends and family. He was always quick with a joke and especially loved bantering with his nieces and nephews during Sunday dinners at his in-law's house. He enjoyed his Saturday night dinners with friends Don and Joyce Lacerda always followed with a nightcap at the Elks. He was a true son of Gloucester and could often be found walking Stacy Boulevard or spending summer days at Good Harbor Beach.
Butch is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Horne; children, David Horne, Renee (Horne) Davis and her husband Jeff; his grandchildren, Jordan Horne and her fiancé Brandon Jones, Jacen Horne, Brianna Horne, and Jami Kolodzik; his great-grandchildren, Peyton Jones, Brandon Jones, Brett Gaipo, Julia Gaipo, and Michael Marino; his brother, Billy Horne and his wife Carol; his sisters-in-law, Rose Aiello, Michelle Lupo, Rose Horne, and Marilyn Horne and many nieces and nephews, whom he cherished.
He was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Grace Horne; his in-laws, Tom and Rose Lupo; his brothers, Bobby, Freddie, Dicky and Donny Horne; his sisters, Mary Faye (Horne) Knipe and her husband Bob Knipe, and Pat (Horne) Hale and her husband Billy Hale.
At Butch's request, there will be no visiting hours. His graveside service will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester on Friday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
A celebration of Butch's life will be held at the Gloucester Lodge of Elks immediately following the burial.
