Daniel I. Murphy Jr. Obituary

Daniel I. Murphy Jr., 83, of Annisquam, MA, formerly of Lexington, MA, passed away October 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Daniel was the son of the late Daniel I. Murphy Sr. and Catherine Redmond.

Born in Cambridge, MA, Dan graduated from Boston College High School, and received a BS in Economics with honors from Boston College. He joined the Navy after college from which he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. His work career included Sylvania, followed by a long tenure at Polaroid Corporation.

Having spent many of his years in various locations by the ocean, including many winters in Florida, Dan enjoyed a lifelong love of the sea. Dan and Emily retired to Annisquam, MA, where they enjoyed life with family and friends, and many outings to the beach, and boating trips on the family boat.

Dan was an avid fisherman who would happily go any time he was offered a fishing excursion with his lifelong fishing buddies.

He was the cherished husband of 59 years to Emily Rolando Murphy; Dad to Kathleen Murphy and her husband Stephen Shinnick of Chelmsford, MA, Jacqueline Shaw and her husband John of Chelmsford, MA, and Christopher Murphy and his wife Lori of Bedford, MA. He was Papa Dan to his grandchildren who he adored: Maxwell, Bronwyn and Cole Shinnick, Christopher and Sophia Shaw, and Conner and Ashlyn Murphy; Brother to sisters, Katherine Pedersen, her husband Dale, and Mary Elizabeth Reilly.

Dan is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his brother Paul.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited. The burial will be private.
