Claire F. Fosberry Obituary

Claire F. (Sheridan) Fosberry, 83, of Gloucester, passed away at home with her family by her side on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William Fosberry.

She was born in Salem, Mass., the daughter of John and Eva (Lambert) Sheridan. Memories of her childhood in the Forest River Park neighborhood always made her smile.

She was a graduate of St. James High School in Salem.

She and Bill were married in Salem in 1961. They moved to Gloucester in 1963, raising their five children in the Fosberry family home.

Mrs. Fosberry was heavily involved in her children's lives and was very proud of her grandchildren's achievements.

She cared for many children in her home, often setting an extra plate at the large family table. Every child in her life held a special place in her heart.

She was a volunteer for many years at Maplewood School, always ready to chaperone a field trip or help a child learn to read.

She cherished hosting holiday dinners and enjoyed visits over coffee with friends and family. She spent many happy summers at their cottage on Horn Pond in Maine and loved Gloucester's waterfront, especially the Fishermen's Wives Memorial and the flowers blooming around it.

She was a quiet helper, and her help resonated deeply with everyone who received it.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Jane and Scott Enos, John and Beth Fosberry, Susan and Alessandro Casagrande, all of Gloucester, Alan and Jennifer Fosberry of Farmington, Conn., and James and Jessica Fosberry of Worcester.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Daniel, Brian and Caroline Enos; John, his wife Megan, Cassandra and William Fosberry; Timothy and Emilia Casagrande; Matthew, Hannah, and Ryan Fosberry; and George, Sarah, Alan and Rachel Fosberry; and a great-grandson, Theo Fosberry.

She is also survived by her sister, Eva Ann Sheridan of West Springfield; her sister-in-law, Doris Murphy of Gloucester, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Fosberry; her grandson, Charles Fosberry; her parents; her brothers, John and Thomas Sheridan; and her sisters, Alice Saben and Marion Rudolph.

Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, Thursday, December 22, from 5-8p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Pleasant Street, Friday, December 23, at 9:30a.m. Burial to follow at Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the Forest River Park Summer Program, Salem Parks and Recreation, 401 Bridge St., Salem, Mass. 01970.
