Charles W. Newman III Obituary
Charles W. "Chuck" Newman III, 64, of Gloucester, passed away after a brief and unexpected illness at the Addison Gilbert Hospital with his loving family by his side. Charles or "Chuck" as he was known to his friends and family was born in Gloucester on November 2, 1957, to Charles "Joe" Newman and Anna (Sutera) Newman.
Chuck worked for many years at Fishery Products as an engineer before getting his trucker's license. He loved driving and could drive anything from a cement truck, which he did for a time for Benevento's Company, to then hauling lobsters and crab out of Gloucester for numerous local seafood business in town.
In his spare time, Chuck had many hobbies, he raised and raced greyhounds, dabbled in car racing and loved working on older model cars. He also enjoyed fishing and lobstering, and loved taking his kids, grandkids, and whoever else wanted to go with him. Chuck loved his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren who he would spoil rotten at every chance he got. His yearly vacations to Disney World with all his grandchildren and family became a highlight for both him and them. Somehow, he got his grandchildren into every restaurant they wanted, seeing any character they wanted and going to any special event that Disney had to offer. He created lasting memories with them that they will never forget. Chuck never missed a sporting event, dance recital, school play or any event that his grandchildren participated in, he was always their biggest fan. Every grandkid thinking that they were "papas favorite" because that's the way he made them all feel. Chuck was sarcastic, funny, and witty and leaves behind many loving friends and family.
Chuck is survived by his children, son, Nathan Newman of Gloucester and daughter, Nicole (Newman) Thompson wife of Brian of Gloucester; his sister, Joanna Newman of Gloucester; his ex-wife, and close friend until the end, Amy Newman of Gloucester. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Michael "Tripp", Charlotte, Etta Gardner, Ella, Willy, and Jack Thompson. He also leaves behind his favorite grand-dog, Remmy as well as numerous, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles "Joe" Newman and Anna (Sutera) Newman; his grandparents, Frances and Peter Sutera and Charles and Minnie Newman, and his dear aunt, Lillian Sutera all of Gloucester.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 9-11a.m. followed by a Service at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
