Charles A. Lindberg Obituary

Charles A. Lindberg, 95, husband of Joan E. (Doucette) Lindberg, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 29, 2022, at Oceanside Rehabilitation Center in Rockport. He was born in Somerville, MA on May 20, 1927, son of the late Horace and Alice (Wright) Lindberg. Born with an inherent love of aviation, in his youth he earned his Junior Pilot's License after gaining the trust of pilots by washing their planes at Logan Field. Charles was a graduate of Rindge Technical School, Class of 1947 and later from North Shore Community College, receiving his Associates degree in Criminal Justice. He proudly served as an Aviator in the United States Navy during WWII. In his earlier years he worked as a security guard at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Charles began with the Gloucester Police Department as a Reserve in 1950, became a Regular Patrolman in 1953 and retired with the #1 Badge in 1985. He also worked on the Gloucester Police boat for many years as the Assistant Harbor Master.

In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, motorcycle riding, skiing, and plowing snow every winter. He built two beautiful homes for his family, a testament to his ingenuity and heartfelt values. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, Gloucester Fraternity Club, Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, Gloucester American Legion, and the Gloucester Lodge of Elks #892. His kind, generous and playful spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan E. Lindberg; his children, Julie Taliadoros and her husband James, Daniel Lindberg and his partner Samantha Brower, Gary Lindberg and his wife Laura, Robert Lindberg and his wife Hallie, Christopher Lindberg and his wife Teresa, Vanessa Lindberg and her partner Sandy Perez, Barbara Squitieri and her husband Philip, Charles Lindberg and his wife Roberta; daughter-in-law, Kristen Lindberg; grandchildren, Jacqueline Hovasse and her husband Bryan, James Taliadoros Jr. and his wife Nissa, Erika Griffin and her husband Ryan, Carter Lindberg, Emma and Grace O'Sullivan, Nathaniel Lindberg and his wife Jenny, Matthew Lindberg, Katelyn Lindberg and her fiancé Hunter Justice, Divina Garcia Lindberg, Derek Lindberg, Bianca and her husband John Quirk, Alexa Squitieri and her partner Jen, Vanessa McKay; 8 great-grandchildren, Brody and Harper Hovasse, Audrey and Natalie Griffin, Evelyn Quirk, Jonathan Squitieri, Brooke and Colin McKay; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Horace, Parker and Robert Lindberg.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. All attendees are required to wear face coverings during Mass. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.

Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Friday, September 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Holy Family Parish, St. Ann's Church, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
