Catherine A. Wallius Obituary

Catherine A. (Misuraca) Wallius, 85, of Gloucester unexpectedly passed away on July 4, 2024, leaving us heartbroken.

She was born in Gloucester, MA on January 16, 1939, daughter of the late Gaetano and Giovannina "Jennie" (LoPiccolo) Misuraca.

Cathy was a strong woman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, companion, and friend. As a devout Catholic her unwavering faith was the source of her strength. In 1997, after the devastating loss of her beloved husband Bill, of 32 years, the Lord guided her to take over a bereavement support group with fellow widow Anita Beloff. For over 27 years, Cathy helped many people deal with their grief by sharing her own story. She was also active in a prayer group that incessantly prayed for those in need of Divine help and guidance.

Cathy was generous, always putting the needs of others first. Her wisdom and kind words gave people hope and left an everlasting impression. She was a social butterfly and life of the party, who loved to dance. She was an avid walker, a sports fanatic, enjoyed nature and had a fondness for animals.

Cathy is now reunited with her husband and walking with the Lord. She will be dearly missed by all those lives she touched.

Cathy is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Wallius; son, William "Bill" Wallius Jr. and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole Catherine, and William Wallius III, all of California; longtime companion, Paul Raymond of Salem; brother, John Misuraca and his wife Pauline; nieces, Gina and Sarina Favazza of NH; In-laws, Wally & Joyce McGrath of Lanesville, and special friends, Juanita Hutchins, Tony & Diana Frontiero, and Barbara Catalini. Also, she leaves behind many close friends and family.

She was predeceased by the love of her life and soulmate, William "Bill" Wallius Sr.; her four sisters, Vincie (Vaiarella), Mary (Parisi), Grace (Favazza), Helen (Misuraca) and five brothers, Vito, Natale, Joseph, Samuel, and Thomas Misuraca, and brother-in-law, Jim Wallius.

A graveside burial service of ashes and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to a charity of your choice.
