Carolyn Renee Gove Obituary
Carolyn Renee Gove, 89, of Gloucester, wife of the late John W. "Jack" Gove Jr., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 12, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1932, in Boston to the late Charles Norton and Renee (Bai) Norton LeBert and was the stepdaughter of Wesley LeBert, who she considered her father.
She lived in Boston in her early years and then moved to Gloucester to share her life with her grandmother Teresa Bai, uncle John Bai and her parents.
She attended Gloucester schools and graduated from Saint Ann High School where she was a cheerleader with the outstanding basketball teams of the late 1940's. She graduated from Burdett College in Lynn, MA and went to work as an executive secretary in the research division of the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly, MA, and later at Cape Ann Surgical Associates in Gloucester for many years. She grew up in Bay View where she loved the beach and jumping off the piers. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, and married Jack there. She later attended Saint Ann Church and our Lady of Good Voyage Church as a devout parishioner of the Catholic Community of Gloucester and Rockport. She volunteered in the Gloucester schools, for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and was a Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and member of the Legion of Mary for Saint Ann's Parish.
She and Jack built their home in Riverdale on Linden Road where all the houses were new, and so were all the kids. It was a wonderful place to live. She and her family took trips to Georgia, Michigan, Illinois, Alaska, Canada, Ireland, cruises to the Caribbean, and her most favorite trip, Italy.
She is survived by her daughters and their families; Teresa Gove Arnold and Joseph M. "Josh" Arnold Jr., granddaughter Jaclyn Arnold Simpson and husband Derek Simpson and their son, Carter, who at two years old nick-named Carolyn "Coco", and who brought her so much joy during the last years of her life; Stephanie Gove LoGrande and husband Gaetano "Tom" LoGrande, granddaughter Nina LoGrande and grandson Samuel LoGrande. She is also survived by special sisters-in-law Patricia Olson and Judith Porter, cousin Cheryl Wagner Johnson and Wagner cousins, special neighbors and friends Sandra Smith, Jean Tarr, Marcie O'Rourke, Barbara Pool, Frank Fuge and best friend Faye DiNino Holst, many nieces, nephews, godchildren and by dear friend Fran LoGrande and family with whom she shared many special times and holidays.
She was predeceased by her parents and in-laws, John and Ruth Gove, brothers and sisters in law Donald and Renee Gove, Kenneth and Eileen Gove and Alfred Olson. She was also predeceased by aunt Bertha Silva, aunt Ernestine Balzarini and her daughter Geraldine Balzarini Wagner, dear friend Mary Saputo, and two infant grandchildren, Matthew Joseph and Erin Mary Elizabeth Arnold. A most loving and giving matriarch, Carolyn will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Lahey Health at Home, Care Dimensions, and caregiver Christine Anderson, who Carolyn adored.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 18 from 4-7 pm at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19 at St. Ann Church, 74 Pleasant St., Gloucester at 11 am. Burial will be in Seaside Cemetery in the Lanesville section of Gloucester.
